PlanB has been providing Construction Management Services for a new hotel in Vancouver, Washington. To say it’s off to a great start would be an understatement. To date, we have saved the owner over $1,000,000 in construction costs through Value Engineering efforts with the General Contractor and their subcontractors. This savings is more than 4 times the amount of our fee on this project. This is one example of the value we add to projects we work on.
Regarding schedule, site underground work is underway, and plumbing and electrical work has already started. Form-work for building foundations will be starting soon, and first concrete is scheduled to be poured shortly after. Currently, we are about one week ahead of the project completion date of 12/1/18. Money was spent early on to cement treat the site so that we would have a workable surface when the rains hit. This has proven to be a good investment as the site has remained workable despite the wet weather that has occurred.
ONE ITEM OF INTEREST. We found three buried structures when site work started that had to be removed. One item was a structure that housed the pump mechanism for the well on the original property, the other was a cistern to hold water from the well, and the third was rather mysterious! This third structure was about three feet in diameter and two feet high, made of thick cedar boards with a concrete top. No one knows what this may have been for, and the City of Vancouver was intrigued enough by it that they sent their historian out to take pictures before it was removed. We called it the Hobbit Sauna.
The project team has been great to work with and we hope to have future work with the owner.
